DRUMS FOR ONE & ALL
DRUM REPAIRS & TUNING
DFOA's Dave C. is able to do basic head replacement on rope-tuned African drums, such as djembes, ashikos or dununs (djuns). Each repair job is unique, so in order to determine the cost of labor and materials, it is necessary to send a photograph of the drum, measurements of the drum's dimensions, and a description of what caused the damage and what the customer wants repaired. Please note that changing the head on a rope-tuned drum is a time intensive job, so don't be surprised if the repair cost is fairly high, relative to the value of the drum.
Does your drum have a flabby bass sound? Does its slap sound lack impact? Dave C. can also tune up both rope-tuned and bolt-tuned drums. The cost is typically $20 for a rope-tuned drum, and $10 for a bolt-tuned drum. Note that if you are not satisfied with the sound of your drum before any work is done, tuning may or may not improve its overall sound. Some drums simply have a poor sound, no matter how well they are tuned. Dave C. will assess the drum before doing any work and recommend the best course of action.
