Drum-enChant is the co-creation of David Curry and Eva Friedner. This monthly gathering provides a unique path for exploring the mystical link between drumming, chanting and broad-based spirituality that honors our connection with each other and with Mother Earth. Drum-enChant is built on the foundation of a simple yet powerful drumming and chanting style, yet there is much more that takes place in this sacred circle. In addition to the drumming and chanting, a typical gathering may include purification and healing rituals, guided meditations, spoken group sharing, vocal toning, circle dances and other gentle body movement.
Eva has received extensive training in Hebrew chant and is skilled in leading groups in the art of sacred song. In recent years, she has expanded her knowledge of chant to include traditions such as Native American, Hindu, Buddhist and Pagan sources. Dave's original experience was primarily in African drumming, but to those skills he now adds flavors of Middle Eastern and tribal drumming that are well suited to the meditative atmosphere of Drum-enChant. For some rounds, Eva will lead with just chanting, or Dave will lead with just drumming. But more often, both facilitators will lead the group in a combination of voice and percussion whose sound is both ancient and magical.
Attendees may bring any kind of frame drum or other small hand drum, as well as a rattles and shakers. Extra drums are available for those who need to borrow. Wooden flutes and didgeridoos are also welcome for people who want to play along with the drumming. No prior experience is required for Drum-enChant, so this is a perfect opportunity for anyone who may be new to drumming or chanting and wants to learn about this beautiful way to express one's self and to connect with others in a deeply meaningful way.
