Tenth Anniversary of Drums For One & All
Yes, it's true; DFOA has been around since 2001 when Dave C. started leading his first public drum circle on a monthly basis in Milford MA. Plans are still in the works, but stay tuned for an upcoming anniversary celebration, complete with giveaways, free workshops and a blowout drum and dance celebration. As the date and location get worked out, notices will be sent out on the DFOA mailing list and posted here to let people know more info about the event.

Middle Eastern Drumming Workshop
On January 31st, DFOA's Dave Curry will be offering a beginner-level workshop for those people who are interested in learning the basics of playing the doumbek (or darabuka), one of the most common hand drums of the Arabic world. Not only will you learn proper playing technique, but you'll also be introduced to some of the most popular rhythms that are at the core of Middle Eastern music. This 2 hour workshop is open to anyone to attend - drummers and dancers alike. Preregistration is not necessary, just show up ready to have fun. Please bring your own drum if you can; some extras will be available on a first-come-first-served basis. The cost is $20 per person and the location is 45 Sumner Street, Milford MA.

Note: This workshop will be the perfect "warmup" for the intermediate level class that DFOA will host in March, featuring Mike Gregian as the guest instructor. More details will be posted on that event when the date gets settled.

Celtic Drumming Workshop With Mance Grady
Sorry folks, but due to lack of interest, the bodhran workshop with Mance had to be cancelled.

Open Drum Circle at First Church in Boston
A new monthly drum circle has been getting underway since the end of 2009. It is being held at First Church in the heart of Boston at 66 Marlborough Street. This circle is open to all ages and all skill levels. It gets started at 7pm and goes to 9pm. The cost is $10 per person. Bring your own drum, percussion instrument, flute or didge if you have them, or borrow one of the extra drums on hand. The circle is facilitated by DFOA's Dave Curry. Parking can be a bit tricky: there are a few spaces available in the lot under the church, but more parking is available on the street behind the church (called Public Alley 423). Enter via the front doors and go up the main stairs to the chapel on the 2nd level.
